MB's Sumo Banzuke Sumo Pics

Banzuke [12 Images]
A selection of rare and not so rare sumo banzuke.
Within this album you will find a collection of pics of sumo banzuke - the elaborate ranking sheets (banzuke) released prior to each of the six annual basho held in Japan.
Since the first banzuke was released in 1757 this is how the wrestlers themselves have known where their last performances have thus ranked them for the upcoming days of fights and ceremony.
With 6 divisions and 5 ranks in the top division alone it can be a little confusing at first when trying to read one of these calligraphical pieces of art. Yokozuna (sometimes translated as Grand Champion) is the highest rank possible to achieve followed by Ozeki, Sekiwake, Komusubi and Maegashira in the top division and it is on these areas most of the linked pictures are focussed.
