July 2000 Nagoya Basho banzuke with Takamisakari, Aminishiki and American Sentoryu all making their makunouchi debuts. (all secured a kachikoshi) Akebono won the basho with a 13-2 record but was pushed to the end by then sekiwake Tochiazuma who finished 12-3. Wakanosato won the Juryo title with a 13-2 record.
