| Heisei 4 Nagoya Basho Banzuke (1992) was the first banzuke in over half a century with no yokozuna, and making it even more unusual are the 2 foreigners occupying the lead positions on both the east and west side of the banzuke, in what is a very hard to come by banzuke nowadays. With ozeki Akebono on the east side and ozeki Konishiki heading the west this was the peak of the American influence in ozumo. Musashimaru - later yokozuna, can be seen in the komusubi east slot just ahead of another future yokozuna - Wakanohana III (shikona then-Wakahanada). Yet another future (dai) yokozuna Takanohana is haridashi as Komusubi under his previous shikona of Takahanada. Contact MB if interested in obtaining a copy. |
